The New Mexico Racing Commission has scheduled Dec. 22 as the date for a public hearing and vote on the proposed relocation of SunRay Park racetrack and casino from Farmington to Clovis.
Commissioners will meet in person at 8 a.m. at the Clovis Civic Center, according to a public notice posted on the Commission’s website.
Racing commissioners in October approved a motion allowing owners of SunRay Park to take the first step toward relocation.
SunRay President Paul Blanchard said the plan is to build a new casino, hotel and racetrack on a 200-acre site east of Clovis off U.S. 60/84. The project would take two years to complete, Blanchard said. The racino would include a 3,000-seat grandstand, 1,340 barn stalls for racehorses and an RV park with 40 utility hookups.
