New Jersey school districts have started to call for closures and delayed openings Tuesday due to a storm that could drop a mix of snow, sleet and ice on parts of the state during the morning commute.

The highest snowfall totals of 4 to 6 inches are expected in Sussex County with decreasing amounts in surrounding areas. A light glaze of ice is also possible, according to the National Weather Service.

A state of emergency takes effect at 5 a.m. for Hunterdon, Morris, Passaic, Sussex, and Warren Counties. Those counties are under winter weather advisories.
