Newark's much-anticipated speed camera is not going up until next year.
The camera, which will be used to enforce speed limits in the city's residential streets, has been delayed until February 2026 because of personnel and IT issues with the city's contractor, Newark City Manager Tom Coleman said. He said he is in contact with the contractor to get more details on why the camera has been delayed again.
The camera's purchase was approved in September 2024, and the city has been figuring out where and when the camera will run since then.
In January, the city released the locations of where the camera can be placed. The majority of places where the camera will go are residential streets and some busier roads like Capitol Trail.
