A British military instructor has been detained in Ukraine on suspicion of espionage for Russia. The individual arrived in Ukraine earlier this year to train local fighters, according to the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU). The SBU reported that the detention was carried out with assistance from British intelligence services. Intelligence sources in Kyiv indicated that the Russian special services allegedly supplied the British citizen with firearms and ammunition intended for targeted killings within Ukraine. An SBU source confirmed, "(The British man) is currently detained and in custody, and the investigation is ongoing." Ukrainian Pravda reported that the SBU's counterintelligence unit, in collaboration with British special services, identified the suspect as a British citizen involved in reconnaissance and sabotage activities on behalf of Russian intelligence between 2024 and 2025. It is claimed that the individual was recruited by the FSB, Russia's main security agency, after being enticed by the prospect of earning "easy money." The SBU has accused the man of relaying official military information to the Russian spy agency. The Mirror has reached out to the Foreign Office for further comment on the situation.
