Ahead of the holiday travel season, a new study identifies New York as having the second safest roads in the nation for Christmas driving.
The research team at Utah-based personal injury law firm Steele Adams Hosman analyzed Christmas traffic fatalities using data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to rank the deadliest states for holiday travel from 2014 to 2023.
Key Findings:
New York ranks as the second safest state in the nation for Christmas driving, with just 4.41 deaths in car crashes per one million residents—58.62% lower than the U.S. average of 10.66 fatalities.
The state recorded 89 total Christmas fatalities over the past decade (2014-2023).
