A man in his 30s has been shot in what police are describing as a "targeted attack" in Huddersfield. The incident occurred on Monday evening, 1 December, at approximately 8.01pm, when police received reports of gunfire on Smiths Avenue in the Marsh area of the town. Officers quickly located the victim on New Hey Road, where he was found with serious injuries to his leg and shoulder. He was subsequently taken to hospital, where his condition is reported to be serious but not life-threatening. Witnesses reported seeing two men wearing balaclavas fleeing the scene shortly after the gunshots were fired. One local resident recounted, "I saw two men in balaclavas running around a cul-de-sac in Lindley just after 8pm." In response to the shooting, police cordoned off Smiths Avenue, Hollin Avenue, and Farriers Croft in Lindley. Yellow evidence cones were placed at various locations to assist in the investigation. Detective Inspector Suzanne Hall from the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team stated, "We understand the concern that it will cause that someone has been injured in a firearms incident. Any use of a firearm is something we treat extremely seriously, and we are following up all available lines of enquiry to ensure that those involved are caught and any weapons used are recovered and taken off our streets." Hall emphasised that the police are treating this incident as a targeted attack and urged anyone with information to come forward. She added, "I would urge anyone who witnessed the events surrounding the firearms discharge to please make contact. Any information, however small it may seem, could hugely assist our investigations." Residents can expect to see an increased police presence in the area as officers conduct house-to-house inquiries and review CCTV footage.
