A pensioner plummeted 200ft at a North Yorkshire airfield after the wing fell off his plane and it hit the ground nose-first, an inquest heard.
Trevor John Poulter, 76, was in the cockpit of the plane on November 2 at Sherburn Aero Club in Sherburn in Elmet, when tragedy struck.
An inquest was opened into his death at Northallerton Coroner's Court on Tuesday (December 2) and heard Mr Poulter had taken off around 12.30pm, before getting into difficulty 200ft up.
After the wing of the plane fell off, the inquest heard that the plane fell from the sky and hit the ground nose-first.
Mr Poulter, originally from Bedford, was extracted from the aircraft by emergency services but was pronounced dead at the scene.
