A University of Oklahoma student's claim of religious discrimination after she failed an assignment is drawing national attention from elected officials, influencers and millions of social media users.

OU officials have said they are investigating the situation, which started in November, when Samantha Fulnecky, a junior majoring in psychology at OU, received a zero on an essay assigned in a psychology course. She was asked to write a 650 words reacting to an article about how people are perceived based on societal expectations of gender.
