NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - An often overlooked, heavily Republican district has captured the national spotlight recently, mainly because of what the results could mean for the Democratic Party’s efforts to regain voting power in Congress.

After weeks of campaigning and expensive television ads, the Special General Election for Tennessee’s 7th Congressional District is here.

Residents of District 7 who have not already voted during the early period can head to the polls today to vote for who will represent them in Washington, D.C.

Despite several independent candidates looking to shake things up today, the heavy money is behind Republican Matt Van Epps and Democrat Aftyn Behn.
