ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Two years after a massive fire ripped through a northeast Atlanta apartment complex, residents may finally get their day in court.

On Nov. 19, a federal judge issued a certification order, which allows a class action lawsuit on behalf of more than 220 residents of The Reserve at LaVista Walk apartments to move forward.

The fire destroyed one building of the apartment complex off Cheshire Bridge Road and rendered another uninhabitable in November 2023. Both buildings were later demolished.

The class action lawsuit argues the property managers knew about issues with the fire suppression system but failed to fix them, among other claims of alleged wrongdoing.
