Zoey Jones, now eight years old, was diagnosed with the most severe form of sickle cell anemia at just three months old.
"We first got red flags about her condition, early on. She was hospitalized for three months," Erin Jones, Zoey's mother said. "She had to be immediately put on antibiotics. She was having pain crises throughout the night, crying uncontrollably. We didn't know what to do. There was nothing we could do to stop or help it."
For years, life became a cycle of appointments and monthly transfusions. Jones said it was beyond difficult watching her young daughter not understand what was happening to her nor how to help her.
