National Guard troops will arrive in New Orleans within weeks, as part of a months-long deployment aimed at tamping down on crime in the city, Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry said Monday.
Landry, who in September requested that the federal government send 1,000 guard members to operate in Louisiana cities and keep them safe, said he on Monday received a commitment from President Donald Trump to deploy National Guard troops to New Orleans "before Christmas."
"He said, 'Don't worry Jeff, we'll have them there in two weeks,'" Landry said Monday, at an event commemorating victims of a vehicle-ramming attack on Bourbon Street Jan. 1, 2025.
