The White House said it was "very optimistic" ahead of a meeting between envoy Steve Witkoff and Russian President Vladimir Putin scheduled to take place on Tuesday (December 2) in regards to ending the Kremlin's yearslong invasion of Ukraine.
Russian officials confirmed that the meeting with U.S. officials, which would also include President Donald Trump 's son-in-law Jared Kushner , was set to take place around 5:00 p.m. local time, which is 9:00 a.m. ET. Witkoff and other U.S. officials met with a Ukrainian delegation in Florida on Sunday (November 30) in an effort to find a peace deal with Russia.
"I think the administration feels very optimistic," White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters on Monday after the meeting in Florida via ABC News . "
