TYLER, Texas — A tiny miracle is being celebrated at UT Health East Texas after a baby born at just 15 ounces—the smallest ever treated at the hospital—was discharged following a months-long fight for life.
“It was so scary, because the doctor was like, I can’t hear the heartbeat. The baby’s not measuring what she’s supposed to measure,” said mother Labreshia Howard , remembering the moment she learned something was wrong during her 24-week checkup, just days after the gender reveal.
Baby Addisyn weighed only 15 ounces at birth, making her the tiniest baby ever cared for at UT Health East Texas. NICU Clinical Manager Bonnie Bearden described just how small she was, noting she was “smaller than a size a can of Coke.”
