KALAMAZOO, MI — Kalamazoo County is assembling property for a new administrative building on Kalamazoo Avenue.

Kalamazoo city commissioners voted to approve the $200,000 sale of a city-owned parking lot at 459 N. Rose Street to the county during a Monday, Dec. 1 meeting.

Kalamazoo County plans to build a parking ramp on the site, per city documents, behind a new administration building on the same block.

The county purchased 224 W. Kalamazoo Ave., formerly home to a McDonald’s , for $9 million on Sept. 16. It will be demolished to make way for the new development.

A new administration building is needed to deliver modern, efficient service and new parking garage is already planned and funded nearby, the county said in a statement.
