Sam Cooke's "A Change is Gonna Come" rang out in the air on the night of Dec. 1 in downtown Montgomery as a crowd of about 40 people gathered for a unity walk at the Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church.

The 50-degree weather and slight drizzle were only slight impediments to the eighth annual celebration of Rosa Parks Day, one of the first of many activities happening this year around Montgomery to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Montgomery Bus Boycott.

"God, let us all hold to the same hope Rosa had, as we continue to show up for one another," said the Rev. Dr. Laticia Walker, the residing elder of the AME church of the Phenix City district. "Let us never forget the power of one. Let us never forget that one voice, one action, or one steadfast woman such as Rosa Parks
