YOUNGSTOWN - SOBE Thermal Energy Solutions was ordered to pay a piping company in Niles after losing a lawsuit filed against them.

The suit was filed against SOBE in July of 2025 by Alcon Mechanical Piping Inc. in Niles. According to the suit, SOBE contacted Alcon in January of 2024 to install riser piping to Erie Terminal Place.

That September, SOBE's agent David Ferro delivered a $400,000 check to Alcon, but was "deliberately obtuse and evasive" about whether or not the check could be cashed, according to the suit.

According to the suit, the check bounced when Alcon tried to cash it in February of 2025.
