(Cleveland)-The Cleveland City Council took action on several items ahead of the New Year during their meeting Monday night. Those items included renewal of Workers Compensation Insurance Coverage, updating the procurement policy, renewal of firefighters’ cancer insurance coverage, and adopting the 2026 Rules of Decorum

The council also agreed to pay part-time firefighters who work on holidays to be paid time and a half.

Cleveland City Manager Kevin Harris told the council, “Everybody that works for Cleveland except for one or two is a full-time firefighter somewhere else. So they’re giving up their holiday with their family and with their crew to come to Cleveland, whether it’s Christmas or Fourth of July or whatever. So we’re asking that we pay time and a half for their base salary.”
