Former New Jersey Gov. Jim McGreevey’s bid for a political comeback as Jersey City’s next mayor will be decided by city voters Tuesday.
McGreevey is facing Jersey City Councilman James Solomon in a runoff election after finishing second to Solomon in a seven-candidate race Nov. 4.
He is trying to avoid the fate of former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who ran for mayor of New York City but was defeated four weeks ago by Zohran Mamdani .
Though McGreevey, 68, had higher name recognition stemming from his time as governor two decades ago and raised $5 million , around twice as much as Solomon, the two-term councilman was first with 29% of the vote, ahead of McGreevey with 25%.
