CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) - An investigation into an illegally harvested deer is underway in the City of Cape Girardeau.

According to Cape Girardeau Police, officers were called around 9:30 a.m. on Monday, December 1, to the 900 block of South Benton Avenue to investigate an illegally harvested deer.

The Missouri Department of Conservation told officers that a deer was harvested with archery equipment on November 23, which was during firearms season.

The Missouri deer archery season is closed during firearms season, which runs from Nov. 15 through Nov. 25.

Officers then contacted the suspected hunter.

They said the hunter allegedly admitted to harvesting the deer with a crossbow at Fountain Park, within the Cape Girardeau City limits, during the firearms season.
