BLOOMINGTON — Indiana football quarterback Fernando Mendoza is taking his cues from Tom Brady ahead of the Big Ten title game .
Mendoza’s idol always spoke with reverence for former Hall of Fame safety Ed Reed and their many battles on the gridiron. The Heisman candidate had the same tone Monday while discussing Ohio State safety Caleb Down during a Zoom press conference with reporters.
“As a quarterback, your eyes are always on the safeties,” Mendoza said. “You are always trying to evaluate the safeties, as that is a big part of the structure of the defense, that's why you always hear Tom Brady talking about Ed Reed so much.”
“That's a great safety he played against. I feel like I have a great opportunity to go against a great safety who is going to play in the NFL one day."
