My wife Paulette and I recently saw an outstanding performance of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” at Ford’s Theatre in Washington, D.C.
The presence of the alcove box in the balcony where President Abraham Lincoln was shot and killed by John Wilkes Booth on April 14, 1865, made the experience more memorable.
Lincoln had compassion, humor, patience, resolve and humility.
We desperately need a leader like him today to restore our faith in democracy and everything that is good about America ( “Trump says he’ll release MRI results but doesn’t know what part of his body was scanned,” Dec. 1).
Perhaps then we might be able to keep Christmas in our hearts year-round and join together in spirit with Tiny Tim, who said, “God bless us, everyone.”
