INDIANAPOLIS (WPTA) - The redistricting debate at the Indiana Statehouse continued to play out Tuesday in the Elections and Apportionment House Committee.
Republican Representative Ben Smaltz introduced House Bill 1032 , which would establish new Indiana congressional districts.
He made it very clear that Republicans redrew the maps to give the GOP an advantage in the 2026 midterms.
Currently, the majority of Marion County, which includes Indianapolis, is represented by one congressional district. The new map would split the county into four districts.
State Representative Cherrish Pryor, a Democrat, said during the committee hearing that she believes the redrawn map is racially gerrymandered.
