Shopping at the top end of the free-agent market can be a wild ride as the Blue Jays and general manager Ross Atkins have learned in recent off-seasons.
Two years ago, the Jays pursuit of Japanese superstar Shohei Ohtani was just beginning to heat up about now. And 12 months ago, it was free-agent slugger Juan Soto who was the focus of Toronto’s considerable attention.
And as much as the 2025 off-season already is off to a solid start for Atkins and his front office, will it ultimately be defined by whether the team is able to bring back Bo Bichette?
As narratives go, the status of the now-former Blue Jays all-star shortstop certainly seems to be bursting these days, especially given the Jay have agreed to terms on a seven-year, $210-million US deal with starter Dylan Cease .
