A 40-year-old woman is facing multiple charges after allegedly driving drunk with two children in her car and crashing on Route 6 in Northern Westchester, police said.
The incident happened in Yorktown on Saturday, Nov. 29, just after 2:45 p.m., when officers were called to Route 6 and Sunnyside Street for a motor vehicle crash, the Yorktown Police Department said on Monday, Dec. 1.
Police said the driver, identified at the scene as Yorktown resident Judith Lena, had been involved in a collision that left her vehicle with possible injuries reported.
During the investigation, officers determined Lena had allegedly been driving while intoxicated with two children, ages 4 and 15, inside the vehicle. She was taken into custody and transported to Yorktown Police Headquarters for processing. Police contacted the children’s relative, who responded and took custody.
At headquarters, Lena was charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, in addition to her charges, including aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child under Leandra’s Law, endangering the welfare of a child, unclassified misdemeanor DWI, and multiple vehicle and traffic violations.
She was arraigned by Judge Cohen-Pierson, who issued a temporary order of protection on behalf of the children. Lena was released on her own recognizance and is scheduled to appear in Yorktown Justice Court on Thursday, Dec. 4, at 6 p.m.
