SOUTHINGTON, Conn. (WFSB) - Mount Southington Ski Area launched its first round of snowmaking Monday night.
According to the ski area, the first snow gun was activated shortly after temperatures dropped enough for snowmaking to begin.
Within minutes, snow guns across the mountain were running, marking the unofficial start of the winter season.
Staff said the beginning of snowmaking is a moment they look forward to each year, signaling that opening day is getting closer.
“Every flake we make now brings us one step closer to turning on the lifts, seeing families back on the hill, and watching those first runs of the season,” the resort shared in a statement.
Mount Southington has not yet announced an opening date, but officials say snowmaking will continue as long as temperatures allow.
