A 20-year-old football player for the University of Alabama Birmingham has been charged with stabbing two of his teammates, one of whom previously played for Rutgers.

Daniel Mincey is charged with attempted murder after campus police say he stabbed JaSire Peterson with a knife at the school's football operations center at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 22.

Mincey is also charged with assaulting Joshua Underwood. Both players have been released from the hospital, UAB interim coach Alex Mortensen said.

A native of Union City, Peterson is a redshirt sophomore on the Blazers. He originally spent two seasons at Rutgers, appearing in one game.

Peterson graduated from Union City High School in 2022, playing offensive and defensive line, leading the Soaring Eagles to a 9-2 record and appearance in a title game. As a senior, he was considered the 4th overall prospect in the Garden State by24/7 sports.
