More than a third of young people referred to CAMHS (Child and Mental Health Services) in the last few months have been rejected, it has been revealed. Alex Cumming, Executive Director of Operations at SAMH (Scottish Association for Mental Health) deemed the news shocking and warned that Scotland is now facing a mental health crisis.

It comes as a new report released by Public Health Scotland shows that 91.5% of people across the country started treatment within 18 weeks of referral, for the quarter ending September 2025, a drop from 91.8% for the previous quarter. The Scottish Government states that 90% of children and young people should start treatment within 18 weeks of referral to CAMHS.
