GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - The second annual Grand Island Christmas Light Contest is back, bringing holiday cheer and bigger prizes.
Due to the generosity of a local resident and community organizations, this year’s prize pool has grown to a total of $800.
Grand Island Area Economic Development Corporation and Chamber of Commerce, Grand Island Tourism and the Greater Grand Island Community Foundation have donated a combined total of $300.
The other $500 was donated by a Grand Island community member, Josh Smidt. He donated $300 to the competition last year and decided to donate more this year.
“It really wasn’t a large donation but it seemed to have a big impact,” Smidt said. “This year just upping it to $500, hoping to gain a little bit more excitement and if a little bit more allows
