KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Sevier County has transitioned to a new CodeRED Emergency Alert System. It means the county is no longer using the system that saw a nationwide data breach, and users need to download a new app.

A Sevier County spokesperson said in a news release Tuesday morning that the county had moved to the new system — a process that was already happening when the security breach affected user data. That breach exposed user phone numbers, email addresses and passwords.

The new system is also improved, the county said, and offers better location-based alerts.

User accounts are being moved over automatically, but the county said users should consider changing their passwords just to be safe. The county also said the new system comes with a new app, which is available here
