LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - Tuesday, metro leaders marked the re-opening of the Portland Library after more than two years of renovations.
The library was originally established in 1905, but has been in the building on Northwestern Parkway since 1913. It’s the third oldest in the Louisville Free Public Library System.
Crews restored the historic part of the building and added on 5,400 feet of space.
Changes include a larger collection of books and materials, additional computers, a separate children’s and teen area, and a new elevator making it more accessible. The changes aim to honor the building and the neighborhood’s history while opening the door to the future.
