COLUMBIA — Start your engines. Columbia will see its first homegrown drag queen compete on “RuPaul’s Drag Race” in season 18, the uber-popular reality competition announced Dec. 2.
Kenya Pleaser, a local queen known as “the Lizzo of drag,” will vie for the crown — and the title of “America’s Next Drag Superstar” — alongside 13 other queens.
The show is heading into its 18th season and has birthed several spin-offs, including “All Stars” and international iterations. Hosted and produced by the “queen of drag” and “Supermodel” songstress RuPaul Charles, the show takes local queens from all over America (and sometimes further afield) through the ringer with challenges aimed at revealing which competitor has the most charisma, uniqueness, nerve and talent.
