KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Potholed roads are likely to be a recurring frustration this winter as fluctuating temperatures and repeated freeze-thaw cycles make repairs difficult for road crews.
Last winter, many people reported to WVLT that potholes were one of their top complaints on the roads. TDOT officials said with frequent changes in the temperature during the winter it creates the perfect recipe for potholes. However, crews are ready to respond but face limitations imposed by the season.
“Keep in mind that this time of year, the asphalt plants aren’t open as much, so it’s more difficult to get access to hot asphalt,” TDOT’s Mark Nagi said. “That means a lot of the patching our crews end up doing is more of a temporary patch.
