The defenceman had returned to Toronto from the club’s trip to get further evaluation on a lower-body injury and Leafs coach Craig Berube confirmed on Tuesday morning that Carlo will miss an extended period. Article content Article content

“He has to get something done,” Berube told media in Florida, where the Leafs and Panthers meet on Tuesday night . “It didn’t go the way we thought.”

Will the 29-year-old Carlo require surgery?

“Probably,” Berube said.

The implications for the Leafs aren’t terrible.

They’re 3-3-1 in seven games since Carlo most recently played on Nov. 13 against Los Angeles and
