Lady Elish Angiolini KC has released the second part of her inquiry into the murder of Sarah Everard, 33, by a serving police officer in 2021 and emphasised a profound and society-wide lack of care in ensuring women’s safety around predatory men.

This second part examined the risk of recurrence across the police force as a whole, in particular due to repeated missed opportunities to apprehend Wayne Couzens, but Lady Elish also highlighted that women curtail their freedom while the men who attack them do not.

“Women change their travel plans, their routines, and their lives out of fears for their safety in public, while far too many perpetrators continue to roam freely,” she said. “Women deserve to feel safer. They deserve to be safer. Making women safer should make everyone safer.”
