TRINITY COUNTY, Texas — A former East Texas animal control officer was sentenced to 30 years in prison for sexually assaulting a child.

Brandon Daniel Furman, 53, pleaded guilty to aggravated sexual assault of a child and he was sentenced to 30 years in prison, Trinity County Sheriff Woody Wallace said Tuesday.

Furman, who was arrested back in July of this year, was working as an animal control officer at the Trinity County Sheriff's Office when he committed the offense, the sheriff's office said. He was immediately removed from duty upon his arrest.

"His conduct was a grave betrayal of the trust placed in him by this office, the citizens of Trinity County, his family, and most of all his young victim," Wallace said in a Facebook post. "This office is deeply sickened by his actions. We
