Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is shifting blame over a U.S. military strike on an alleged drug-trafficking boat in the Caribbean.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed Monday there was a second strike on Sept. 2 that killed survivors of an initial strike. Both the House and the Senate Armed Services committees announced separately they would start inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the subsequent strike.

While Leavitt said that Navy Adm. Frank M. Bradley specifically ordered the second strike, Hegseth weighed in amid growing concerns over the legality of more than 20 strikes on alleged drug-trafficking boats that have killed over 80 people in international waters.
