President Donald Trump has promised to send National Guard troops to New Orleans before Christmas, according to Gov. Jeff Landry. The announcement comes as planned Border Patrol immigration raids

In September, citing rising crime in New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and Shreveport.

Speaking at an event commemorating victims of the Jan. 1 terror attack on Bourbon Street on Monday, Landry said Trump had personally committed to the deployment. “He said, 'Don't worry Jeff, we'll have them there in two weeks,’” Landry recalled.

Although the exact number of troops has not yet been confirmed, Landry said they will support daily security operations in New Orleans and other communities, with their presence expected to continue through Mardi Gras.
