City leaders from Minneapolis and St. Paul stood firmly with the Twin Cities Somali community Tuesday following reports that the Trump administration is planning an operation targeting the region’s Somali people.

The New York Times is reporting that the Trump administration plans to launch “an intensive immigration enforcement operation primarily targeting hundreds of undocumented Somali immigrants in the Minneapolis-St. Paul region.

At a Tuesday afternoon press conference, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said he found the media reports credible, including the arrival of potentially 100 more federal agents.

“Obviously, this is a frightening moment for our Somali community,” he said, adding that more than 80,000 people of Somali heritage live in Minnesota and nearly all are U.S. citizens.
