In my first year as Texas Monthly ’s dining critic, I’ve eaten it all: chili dogs, sushi, steaks, cheeseburgers, and overwrought, foam-topped morsels from luxury tasting menus. But there are a handful of bites that stood out. What they have in common is boldness. Flavor for days. A point of view, an individuality, and a willingness to depart from the safe restaurant script that’s replicated all too often. Most important, they taste amazing.
