President Donald Trump frequently finds himself at loggerheads with Democratic governors nationwide, from Pennsylvania’s Josh Shapiro and Illinois’ JB Pritzker to Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey.
But there’s one key swing state governor with whom the Republican president has developed a productive working relationship: Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.
The two have an “affable” relationship, according to Politico , which cited two White House officials and a political aide for Whitmer, who’s been mentioned as a possible 2028 presidential contender .
