FARGO — The Cass County Sheriff’s Office did not violate open records laws when it investigated who requested records that revealed a deputy sent a nude photo of himself to another officer, according to the North Dakota Attorney General’s Office.
Attorney General Drew Wrigley issued on Tuesday, Dec. 2, the opinion requested by former Cass County Reserve Sheriff’s Deputy Ben Longlet. Initially calling himself Code4 Media, Longlet released Cass County Sheriff’s Office documents that detailed an investigation into Lt. Tommy Ray.
Ray, apparently by accident, used a department-issued cellphone to send a nude photos of himself to a male deputy in September 2021. He received a written reprimand for the incident, which was his first offense at the department.
