AUSTIN, Texas (KLTV) - Caden Hawkins of Hallsville has been in a prison in Juarez, Mexico, for nine months after driving to the border and getting lost, according to his family.
State Rep. Jay Dean pledged to get other government officials to speak up on Hawkins’ behalf until they can bring him home.
On Tuesday, Sen. Jon Cornyn spoke up in Hawkins’ defense, as well. He posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, “23-year-old Caden Hawkins of Hallsville, Texas was arrested by Mexican authorities after getting lost and crossing into Mexico just south of the New Mexico border and has been held 9 months. He needs to come home, soon.”
He then thanked Rep. Dean for alerting him of Hawkins’ situation, adding, “We won’t rest until Caden comes home.”
