BURLINGTON, N.C. — Two pedestrians were injured in a hit and run in Burlington early Tuesday morning, according to the Burlington Police Department.
The collision happened on the I-40 westbound on-ramp near Maple Avenue, according to police.
A mother and child were walking north along Maple Avenue toward a nearby school. While trying to cross the I-40 westbound on-ramp, a Dodge Ram truck turned left from Maple Ave. onto the interstate and hit the pair, police said.
According to police, the truck had the green signal when turning and had initially stopped to check on the mother and child, but then left the scene.
The driver was identified as Jose Lopez, 51, and charged with misdemeanor hit and run.
