PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Phoenix police say a woman was hit and killed by a car in a busy west Phoenix neighborhood Monday evening.

The crash happened around 7:15 p.m. near 41st Avenue and Camelback Road , according to the Phoenix Police Department.

Officers arrived to find a woman, identified as Essence Felicia Stevenson, 27, seriously hurt. She was rushed to the hospital, where she later died.

Detectives believe Stevenson was crossing Camelback mid-block when she was hit by a vehicle headed westbound. Authorities don’t believe impairment was a factor in the crash.

No other details have been released, but police said the investigation remains ongoing.
