A massive wave of support is pouring in for Long Island native and Siena men’s lacrosse head coach Liam Gleason after he suffered a serious head injury in an accident at his Saratoga County home.

Gleason, 40, was injured at his Halfmoon residence on Sunday, Nov. 30, as Daily Voice reported. He was hurt after falling down a flight of stairs, the Albany Times Union further reported.

New York State Police and paramedics responded to the home, and CPR was administered before he was transported to a nearby hospital.

The accident left Gleason with a traumatic brain injury, according to a GoFundMe campaign organized by a family friend.

“The Gleason family has suffered the most unimaginable tragedy,” organizer Julia wrote. The coach remained hospitalized as of Tuesday, Dec. 2.

Siena President Chuck Seifert has asked the campus community to keep Gleason and his family in their prayers.

“Anyone who knows him knows what a light he is in this world. Liam is the best father, husband, brother, son, brother-in-law, uncle, coach, and friend,” said Julia. “His heart is as big as his 6’5 frame, and the love he gives to those around him is immeasurable.”

Gleason’s wife Jaclyn, and their three children now face a long road of emotional and financial challenges as they support him through his recovery, according to the fundraiser.

“As they navigate this devastating news, we are asking for support to help ease the burden on Jaclyn and the kids,” she said. “Any contribution, no matter the amount, will make a meaningful difference and allow them to focus on healing and being together.”

In just days, the campaign had raised over $300,000 from over 2,200 donors. Those interested in supporting the family can donate via GoFundMe here.

Gleason, a Wading River native, was named head coach of Siena’s men’s lacrosse program in 2018. Under his leadership, the Saints have reached multiple MAAC semifinals and championship games.

This past season, he guided the team to a MAAC title and its first NCAA Tournament appearance in 11 years, earning ECAC Division I Men’s Lacrosse Coach of the Year honors.

Before joining Siena, Gleason coached at the University at Albany and The College of Saint Rose. His wife, Jaclyn, is a former Albany soccer standout.
