He belonged to the first generation of professional Canadian hockey players in the fledgling National Hockey League established in 1917. In his two seasons in the NHL, “Rusty” Reid wore the Toronto St. Pats jersey that became the legendary Toronto Maple Leafs in 1927. Reid was the first in a long line of hockey greats, including Cooney Weiland, Ron Mason, Dave McLlwain, the Murray brothers, Boyd Devereaux, and Cal and Ryan O’Reilly that established a Seaforth tradition as an ice hockey town.
