Police are targeting the rise in property crime in Waterloo’s university district by going door to door with preventive education to residents.
Pointing to problematic areas, especially underground parking garages on Columbia Street and King Street near the universities, Waterloo Regional Police officers knocked on doors Monday and Tuesday in apartment complexes to tell residents how they could deter the increase of thefts from vehicles happening over the past couple months.
If someone isn’t home, they’ll get a door knocker with steps to stop criminals from going into unlocked vehicles or smashing windows to gain entry.
