First lady Melania Trump unveiled the White House's Christmas decorations on Dec. 1.

Christmas has been a touchy subject for the first lady in the past. In 2018, her choice of red Christmas trees sparked ridicule. In 2020, a secret recording of Trump complaining about her White House holiday duties became public.

This year, she drew her inspiration from motherhood and business for the theme "Home is where the heart is."

"The constant movement has taught me that home is not merely a physical space; rather, it is the warmth and comfort I carry within, regardless of my surroundings,” she said in a statement. “This Christmas, let’s celebrate the love we hold within ourselves, and share it with the world around us. After all, wherever we are, we can create a home filled with grace, radiance, and endless possibilities.”

2023 White House Nutcracker video resurfaced

The Trump War Room used the Christmas launch to take jabs at former first lady Jill Biden's 2023 White House holiday promotions.

In 2023, her theme was "magic, wonder and joy" of the holiday season. She had an Advent calendar, a visit from the snowman Olaf "Frozen," and ornaments honoring fallen service members.

On Dec. 13, 2023, Biden posted a video of a New York tap dancing group performing a number from their interpretation of The Nutcracker Suite in the White House.

"Jill Biden made a mocked Christmas by featuring woke clowns in her Christmas decorations!" the Trump War Room posted on Dec. 1.

First lady Melania Trump hit holiday controversy during first term.

Christmas at the White House brought controversy to the first lady in President Donald Trump's first term.

First, there were the red Christmas trees in 2018.

Then, Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, author of the book "Melania and Me," secretly recorded conversations with Melania Trump complaining about her role promoting the White House at Christmas while being criticized for not doing more meaningful work, CNN reported in 2020.

"I'm working my (expletive) off with the Christmas stuff that, you know, who gives a (expletive) about Christmas stuff and decorations but I need to do it, right?" the first lady said in the recording. "And then I do it, and I say I'm working on Christmas and planning for Christmas ... And they say, 'What about the children that are separated?' Give me a f---ing break."

Wolkoff and the first lady were friends. Trump's first-term Justice Department sued Wolkoff over the tell-all memoir, but the lawsuit was dropped in 2021. In response to the recordings, the first lady's office said there was no way to know if the recordings were edited and accused Wolkoff of recording to "peddle herself and her salacious book."
