The drug dealer who killed a bystander outside a Leslieville supervised-injection site has testified he fired in self-defence, believing that one of the men involved in a fight over his bag was going to kill him.
On Tuesday, Damian Hudson faced his jury as well as onlookers in the public gallery, including the parents of Karolina Huebner-Makurat, the mother of two who was killed as she was walking on Queen Street East to meet a friend for lunch near the South Riverdale Community Health Centre.
Hudson, 34, has already admitted that he fired the bullet that killed Huebner-Makurat, but he has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder , with his defence arguing he was the victim of a robbery by rival drug dealers.
